Why eating 6-8 times a day is better

Glycemic index (GI) refers to how fast sugar (glucose) enters the blood stream after carbohydrates are digested.
What can happen if you’re GI is too high:

  • If blood sugar rises too quickly, your brain signals your body to secrete a greater amount of insulin.
  • Insulin helps bring sugar out of the bloodstream, primarily by converting the excess sugar into fat and storing it in your body.
  • This is what leads to an energy rush followed by hunger and sleepiness after eating a candy bar.
  • This is significant because excess insulin secretion can result in various ill health effects such as fatigue, weight gain and, eventually, type 2 diabetes.

For these reasons as well we should be eating 6-8 times a day.

When we only eat 3 times a day there is huge increases in you’re glycemic index. Eating 6-8 times a day almost eliminates these increases.

Eating 6-8 times a day will help regulate your glycemic index, intern causing you to lose weight fairly rapidly, and as well build and tone muscle a lot faster then you could ever expect.

How to get started eating 6-8 times a day?

If you have a good balanced diet already, I would recommend dividing you’re 3 large meals by two in to 6 smaller meals.

If you don’t have that great of a diet, then I would recommend taking a look at Canada’s food guide. Divide all the portions of food into 6-8 meals. Remember when dealing with Canada’s food guide, it does not allow for enough protein, so I would buy a protein shake and supplement that way. An example could be:

  • 1st Meal (Fruits & Vegetables’ – 2 servings, Grains – 2 servings, Dairy – 1 serving)
  • 2nd Meal (Fruits & Vegetables’ – 2 servings, Grains – 2 servings, Protein shake)
  • 3rd Meal (Fruits & Vegetables’ – 1 serving, Meats & alt. – 1 serving, Dairy – 1 serving)
  • 4th Meal (Fruits & Vegetables’ – 1 servings, Grains – 3 servings, Protein shake)
  • 5Th Meal (Fruits and Vegetables’ – 2 servings, Meats & alt.– 2 servings, Dairy – 1 serving)
  • 6th Meal (Fruits and Vegetables’ – 1 servings, Grains – 2 servings)

Remember when doing out an eating plan, you should try and consume as much whole grain as possible (white grain is just calories, has no nutritional value). Also fruits such as grapes, watermelon, and pineapple are just sugar (foods like apples, oranges, bananas, tomatoes, kiwi, all green vegetables’ are the best).
